Body Jewellery Materials

What is body jewellery made from?

Body jewellery has been around for hundreds of years, it started out being made from animal bones, tusks and horn.

Body piercing jewellery is usually surgical steel, with lots of lovely and unusual designs now becoming more widely available in other materials such as titanium, acrylic, flexible ptfe, black or gold pvd titanium or surgical steel, wood, horn, glass, gold and platinum.

The pretty belly bars that are now around usually have designs in sterling silver, some designs are base metal, but they should all have at least 316L surgical steel bars. All primary piercings should be done with titanium body piercing jewellery to comply with the EU nickel directives. Once your body piercing has fully healed, then it may be changed for some of the more colourful and intricate designs in surgical steel etc.
